General

Qitaab Publishing LLP is a publishing service to help authors publish and distribute their books. The service is aimed towards authors who would have otherwise self-published and distributed their manuscripts.

We accept completed manuscripts, process it, and ready it for publishing and distribution.

We distribute both printed and digital versions. Printed books are distributed by domestic as well as international courier services. Digital editions of the books are also sold as online downloads.

Though Qitaab is a print-first publishing house (i.e. each book is designed with the idea of being printed), each book is also available in a digital format (ePub).

Each estimate is tailor made to the requirement of each author. Please contact us via the contact form on this site with a brief outline of your manuscript or idea, and we will get back to you within 24 hours with a plan and an estimate.

Ownership and Copyright

You, the author own all rights to the work.

Usually, your work is covered as your own copyright as soon as you complete and publish it. However, in India, you can actually register your work at the Government of India’s Copyright Office for a fee. Registering your work there is an extra safeguard and helps if legal action needs to be taken in  case of infringement or other issues.

Fan fiction, by definition is built upon existing narrative and characters that are in most cases the legal property of other authors, companies and/or organizations. This would make any written work possibly an infringement of copyright, which is why Qitaab only publishes original material that only you as the author has complete rights to.

This is only possible if you have the written consent of the authors whose work you want to publish.

Language

At this point we support most Indic languages in addition to English and some European languages. Please contact us for more information on  more specific details regarding  this.

Publishing a translation of an existing literary work is only possible if you have the written consent of the author and the publishing body that created the book that you are translating. This might also involve paying a royalty to the original author or publishing body, and might affect your final royalty on the sale of each book.

Submissions and Manuscripts

Please contact us via the submission on the bottom of this page, or via the Contact Us page with a description of your book and vision for it.

A final and complete manuscript is always the starting point, since it allows us to work out the overall cost of the project and quantify the resources needed to print the book. Factors like the total number of pages, type of printing (black and white, 4 colour, special colours) all affect the way the project is executed.

Please prepare your manuscript in any word processor of your choice and save it as a Rich Text Format (.RTF) file. This strips away unnecessary formatting and leaves the manuscript clean for review and editing. If the narrative of your book depends on certain compositions of image and text, a PDF can also be submitted. We will review this and guide you as to how to proceed.

The manuscript is only circulated between the relevant teams within the company in order to create and approach and project plan, and is not shared or publicised outside this very tight circle. You always have ownership of your work and it will not be used in any other form or compilation.

Sales and Distribution

Currently the main point of distribution is via the online bookstore on this website. We do plan to make our books available at select brick and mortar bookstores in the near future.

All books published by Qitaab will primarily be sold only on qitaab.com and at special events.

If you run a bookstore and would like to stock our books, please contact us via the contact form below or on our Contact Us page.

Design, Editing and Printing

We help authors and other entities edit, process, design, layout and print books, catalogues and other printed or digital creative content.

You could design your own cover as long as it adheres to some technical specifications for print. We will provide you with these details. We also work with illustrators and graphic artists who can design special covers for you.

If you have the basic manuscript of your book ready, we could work with an illustrator who would bring your vision to life and then design the book to our standards and specifications.

Environment

At Qitaab, we ensure that all the paper we print our books on is responsibly sourced and recyclable. A digital (ePub) version of each book is also created and made available by default for all our books.

All our packaging is PVC free and made with recycled or recyclable paper. We do our best to keep the entire system completely free of plastic and other non-biodegradable materials.

Other than using recycled or responsibly sourced paper, we also have the option of using soy-based ink. This not only makes the paper easier to recycle, but also reduces the chemical content of the pages, as opposed to traditional petroleum-based inks. One thing to keep in mind while using soy-based inks is that they take longer to dry, and would affect the overall schedule of printing and delivery.

Corporate orders

We accept corporate orders for bulk quantities of books and stationery items.

A minimum of 500 units is mandatory for a corporate order.
